Pillow Instructions
1) General:
The pillows should be constructed with the same materials and style as the sample I provided. The pillows should be 26 by 26 inches square using a standard pillow insert (stuffer pillow). Please view the detail photos on this site for additional construction details. If you have any additional questions, please contact me through Mr. Hu.
2) Fabric:
The fabric must be 100% cotton and should be similar in both color and thread count to the fabric used in the small sample pillow. I'm not sure of the exact thread count used in the sample. The stitching should be the same as on the sample.
3) Fringe:
The ragged fringe on the canvas pillow was made by cutting the edge before washing the fabric. The fringe should be cut to a length of 6 inches and be used on both the front and back panels of the pillow. The fabric must be washed to create the proper ragged looking fringe. Please consider shrinkage when washing the canvas.
4) Buttons:
The pillows need to use buttons to close in the back. This is important because these are copies of antique pillows that didn't use Velcro or zippers. The buttons are also bone. If you can't match the buttons that may be OK, but again the buttons should be of a good quality. The small sample pillow only has 2 buttons because it's small and there isn't enough room for 4 buttons. It just shows construction. The large pillows should use 4 buttons. The sample pillow uses bone buttons. The buttons in the picture are solid metal buttons, either would be fine. I will try to provide some sample buttons.
5) Beads:
I had trouble getting exact sample beads, but the ones I sent are OK. I realize that the small beads are hard to work with. If you need to use slightly larger beads or can't quite match the color, that may be OK, but I would like to see them first. We can talk about that after you see what is available.
The beading of the horse's legs how the legs are outlined over the body. Details like that add quality to the product. I understand they also take more work, but they are important.
The 4 stars in the corners use silver beads. The 2 stars above the flags use the green beads with a few amber beads in the center. The flags use red, white and blue beads with amber beads used for the flagpoles. The horses use red or blue beads with white beads on the hoofs and faces.
6) Mane:
The mane on the horses head and neck was added; it wasn't something that was originally specified. There isn't any mane on the horse pictures because they are of an older pillow. I didn't put the new pictures on the web site because they didn't come out very well. I need to see if I can have them reprinted.
7) Pattern:
The pattern for the pillow is under the menu link Pillows 2. There are also photos of the finished pillow in canvas and construction details. The pattern graphic is 1000 by 1000 pixels and may be down loaded from the site.
8) Stuffer Pillow (Pillow Insert):
We will wait on the stuffer pillow until I see what they will cost in the U.S. I would also like to match the stuffer pillow I sent which is 95% feathers / 5% down. There is nothing custom about the stuffer pillow. We can buy them in the store here just like the one I sent. I sent it as a sample to match for pricing.
